“Dear Folks at Straightline,

As far as I’m concerned you have distinguished yourself as a premier fly shop and guide service. Your knowledge of local water and your excitement for the sport is evident. Thanks for the great tips and your selection of flies for fishing in Steamboat. It made my fishing days at Steamboat very productive.

Thank you for taking me out to the private waters on the Yampa last month. What monster trout and beautiful scenery!! Consistently catching twenty plus inch browns and rainbows was incredible. I am looking forward to going out with you in the near future to land some of these colossal fish.”

Best Regards,

Charles Mann, D.M.D

WHEN TO VISIT?

Spring:Although local streams may be swollen with run-off, the area still offers excellent fishing on several tailwaters and the lake fishing can be superb. This is also a great time to catch spawning Northern Pike in the lakes and rivers.

Summer:The streams become low and clear. The hatches of insects are prolific, with dry fly fishing at its best. Book a float trip into early August, depending on river levels, and float the lower Yampa through private ranches. Wade trips usually begin in late June and run into the fall.

Fall: The best season – the aspens are turning gold and the fishing is fabulous. Hot fishing on cool crisp days. Come visit when the town has settled down and hang out with us locals.

Winter: Skiing is not the only winter sport. Take a break from skiing and get a taste of the ultimate fly fishing experience. Take our word for it, winter fishing can be incredible.

I will be out there over New Years week. I see you offer winter fishing trips: is there any fishing to be had around that time? Are there options around that time of the year in terms of where we would fish?

    Thank You,

  2. Rich, Thanks again for making our trips out West a success. Catching fish is the key,but you can always catch fish, but we also catch as good a guide as there is when we have you along.Hope your other clients think of you as an equal. We feel like old friends with you and would be disapointed if you couldn’t come to diner with us and I know that’s above and beyond what is expected of a guide. Your buddy, Bill Johnson

  3. Hi, my dad and I are up in Steamboat for a baseball tournament and wanted to fish Stagecoach Reservoir for northern pike. We have our own tackle and equipment we are just missing a boat and a guide and were wondering if you would available 6/18/11 for an afternoon outing after two early games. You can reach me by my email and I am not 100% sure on how many people will go, either 2 or 3. Hope to be in contact.
