Yampa River Report 6/13/06

As of noon today, the river has dipped below the 1500 cfs mark and is now down to 1380 cfs.  Conditions are ideal for throwing streamers and large sculpin and baitfish colored streamers like Coffee’s sparkle minnow and Beldar’s rubber bugger did the trick this morning.  Two guide trips yeilded numerous large  browns and some good sized rainbows.  A nymph caught cutthroat was actually snatched off the end of the line by a hungry brownie on a trip a couple days ago.  Large golden stones have been seen in the air and on the grass next to the river so keep an eye out for sprodic risers in the slow bank water.  The first of the summer’s PMDs was spotted this morning so look for insect activity to be on the rise with Green Drakes soon to follow.  Fishing is great, get out there.
