Yampa River Report

The river throughout town is fishing very well right now with a variety of bugs out.  In the mornings we are seeing a lot of PMD’s, Yellow Sallies, and Baetis.  Fishing a nymph rig with pmd, yellow sally, or caddis patterns has been good.  Fish are also starting to feed on the surface, rising to pmd and yellow sally dries.  Using a dry-dropper setup produced many takes today.  We would recommend using a pmd emerger or a soft-hackle mayfly emerger as your dropper.  In the afternoons expect to see more caddis action and keep your eye out for green drakes which should start hatching heavily soon.  Using green drake nymphs and caddis pupa patterns would also not be a bad idea.   -MH
